About the Irish Democratic Party

The Irish Democratic Party (IDP) is made up of ordinary citizens from all walks of life. The party was set up by five young Irish men and women looking for a real alternative in Irish Politics. The founding members of the party want to see a real change happen in the way politics is conducted in Ireland. They all believe that in order to change the attitude of the political classes we must first change the system in which they operate. It is their sincere hope that the Irish Democratic Party (IDP) can provide a ray of hope for both the citizens of Ireland and their Republic.

In January 2012, the IDP Platform document was publicly released, which forms the basis of the party's values and policies. This was the first major milestone of the party. Attention now turns to membership numbers and formal registration as an official political party at both local and national level. In parallel, organisational structures, procedures and teams are currently being established. The IDP Executive is the national coordinating body of the IDP and is provisionally tasked with overall leadership of the group until the first national IDP Party Conference takes place. At that point, the membership will vote on ratification of the IDP Party Constitution, and the leadership will be selected according to procedures detailed in the Party Constitution.

At present, the IDP Membership Team is the focus of activity. Anyone interested in participating in the national launch of a new political organisation is encouraged to get in touch. Activities will include the organisation of public events and the establishment of regional IDP branches throughout the country. There are also openings on the IDP Policy Team for suitable candidates. To participate in policy development, an excellent knowledge of a particular policy area is sought and a professional or academic background in the area is desirable.
